「哈利波特」電影系列不知不覺已經到了第4集 (書的第7集最快都要07年先有喎…)。作為半個「粉絲」,當然要去捧捧場,同埋揀英文版睇 (自言除了日本動畫或其他不懂的外語勉強接受廣東話配音外,英文片一定要看原裝正版)。

劇情實在不太想講,因為大都是重複原著,如有看原著應該知道得一清二楚,唯一要講的就是覺得今次製片商唔知係咪為咗慳錢,將很多重要劇情硬生生的 “cut” 走了,本人覺得情況比第3集更差,例如魁地奇世界杯,介紹完愛爾蘭同保加利亞隊之後,即刻就跳咗去黑魔標記一段…就算用好多錢同特技,做少少魁地奇世界杯滿足吓啲fans都好呀,無端端跳咗去俾人唔連戲的感覺。另外三巫鬥法大賽最後一關,雖然有交代維克多襲擊花兒同哈利的情節,但係很少打怪場面,俾幾陣風吹吓就突然見到個獎杯,真係有點滴汗…至少都俾哈利打番一兩隻迷宮怪獸顯示一下實力 (至少原著內哈利嘅實力好好多囉…)。此外就是哈利鬥惡龍一段,雖然特技出色,但明明原著內哈利拿到掃帚後,唔駛好耐就攞到金蛋,戲內就要搏鬥連場,講到哈利好似好冇能力…唔知導演係咪想將重點放落哈利如何克服三關,但都唔好同原著距離太遠吧……

雖然有些地方實在不太滿意,不過有些情節都算不錯,例如佛地魔復活的一段、大賽第2關和舞會的一段就拍得幾好…

至於角色方面,喬治同埋弗雷今集幾搶鏡 (是為下集出走鋪路嗎?),海格同美心夫人搞笑多過乜 (原著佢兩個關係好反覆嘅噃…),校長突然比較緊張和衰老,麥教授同石內卜發揮不多,反而孚立維教授唔知點解梳個怪頭,至於假穆廸都算有原著那種「恐怖」之感……西追做得唔錯,樣貌都幾好;花兒都好靚 (佢同啲同學跳舞嗰段笑死…好娘…),反而維克多就肥咗啲 (原著好似冇話佢咁珠圓肉潤噃…),至於張秋沒有想像中差,不過得幾個鏡頭。妙麗喺今集有點造作,榮恩都可以,不過少了搞笑成份,至於哈利就算不過不失啦 (似乎比原著少了一點實力)。總括而言,今集電影不過不失,特技場面配樂依舊不錯,反而劇情改動和刪減方面需要多下工夫,尤其是第5集是最長的一部 (我寧願睇3個鐘都唔想啲劇情太過不忠於原著)。雖然劇情改動的結果唔一定差 (「朱古力掌門人」結尾就改得幾好),但如果想套戲耐看,就算這套是魔幻片,又有原著,亦不應該過份忽略劇情,以為人人都知劇情先得0架嘛…

第5集好似又換咗導演 (咁樣真係唔係幾好…),希望能夠比這集有進步啦...

你喜歡靠直覺做決定,還是覺得深思熟慮的決定才是準確呢? Malcolm Gladwell 繼 “The Tipping Point” 之後寫的第2本書 “Blink”,探討的就是我們人人都有的直覺,就好像眨眼 (blink) 一樣,突然靈機一動的想法。

作者於本書的主要論點有三:第一,所有人都有運用直覺的能力,而且很多時候都在不知不覺間,即是在潛意識的層面的直覺往往比意識上的感受來得更快。例如當賭徒在不知情的情況下,使用由心理學家特別設計的啤牌作賭博 (紅色牌輸得多,藍色牌嬴多一點),他們意識上要抽到大約80張牌才覺得兩種牌是有分別,但潛意識上的直覺,卻原來在他們大概抽到第10張牌時,已經覺得不妥 (儀器已測量到有反應,例如手心多些汗之類)。

除了需要的時間非常少之外,潛意識的直覺,只需要運用正確而核心的資料,就能作準確的預算。例如想知道一對夫婦是否有婚姻問題,不需要做詳細的評估,原來就算在平日的家庭對話中,知道他倆之間的正面情緒對反面情緒的比例是否大約5比1,以及他們是否輕視甚至蔑視對方 (例如出言侮辱),就可以直覺判斷他們未來會否離異,需要觀看的對話時間可以少至3分鐘。另外,通常被控告「醫療失誤」的醫生,真正因為醫錯人而被控告的原來比想像中要少。和病人關係不佳的醫生 (至少是病人覺得醫生沒有關心他們),他們日後被控告失誤的機會,竟然比「技術差」但關心病人的醫生為高,有些人甚至只是認為醫生忽視自己,並不是手術失誤,都走去控告該醫生。從書中提供的例子可知,當了解一件事情的核心原因/因素之後,其他資料就算幾多都好,其實都變得多餘,甚至因為過多資料,為了分析它們而分心或加重無謂的工作,甚至混淆視聽。這當然不是說於意識層面上的資料分析不重要,但單以直覺而言,想要準確的直覺,只要找出模式和模式核心的決定因素,直覺就會又快又準。

如何找出模式和決定因素呢? 作者認為利用 “thin-slicing” 的技巧 (即是將事情細分,留意細節),就能夠找出事情的核心。這亦引出作者另一個主要論點:直覺的技巧是可以學習和培養的。除了「明察秋毫」,亦要「熟能生巧」,即是直覺的產生,既要留意事情的細節,更要從本身的經驗和練習培養出來。例如為何婚姻專家一看就知伴侶關係好與壞,除了知道決定性的核心行為之外,更重要的這些結論是他/她從觀察幾百甚至幾千對伴侶所得出的結果。如果他/她並沒有下過如此一輪功夫,可能他/她的直覺就不會如此準確。又例如美食家為何比其他人更能區別和細分不同的味道的原因呢? 不單是他們有貫於常人的味/嗅覺,更重要的是他們經常品嚐各種食物,同時使用外在加內在的嚴謹標準評分。另外,為何藝術家看到一件作品,一下子就知道它是假是真? 這是因為藝術家看過數不清的藝術作品後,就能夠看到真與假之間的微少分別。所以,作者認為,任何人的直覺都是可以從練習和累積經驗之中得來的。

雖然,直覺是可以從練習和累積經驗之中培養,但潛意識的直覺,就好像一道鎖了的門一樣,普通人不太可能解釋它的運作,或者知道「門」的後面是甚麼,只知道在適當的時間/場合,它會發揮神秘的功用。但當我們想知道「門」的後面是甚麼,普通的我們往往卻不能解釋,甚至有「口不對心」的情形。例如有個女孩想解釋為何在某個時刻喜歡這個男孩,但他的條件和女孩原本心目中的條件不一樣,就會覺得好困難。又或者當我們參加與啟動效應(priming effect)有關的實驗 (priming experiment) 的時候 (這是甚麼? 請看 * ),就會發現我們的潛意識可能和我們所知的意識不同。例如當某些人答題之前看到「黑人」和「好」兩個字聯繫在一起時,他們之後答有關的題目所需的時間,很多時比答題之前看到將「白人」和「好」兩個字聯繫在一起的時間為慢。這並不代表這些人有歧視黑人的傾向 (甚至實驗之前他們聲稱沒有歧視),但潛意識內所建立一些「錯誤」的聯繫,往往比我們想像中要多,甚至影響我們的直覺判斷,這就是作者另一個主要議題:直覺有時會失效或者被誤導。

直覺如何受到誤導呢? 其中一個就是個人的偏見,尤其是用眼看回來的事情。例如我們很多時認為高大的男性較能幹,但其實很多矮小的男性也是十分能幹的。又或者很多音樂家以為女人不能成為好的喇叭手或小提琴手,但當這些音樂家看不到表演者是誰 (用布幕遮住他們),他們選出來拉得或吹得最好的樂手,愈來愈多是女人。我們的潛意識,很容易就會將一些個人偏見與事情連成聯繫,結果到我們用直覺做決定時,那個就成了錯的答案。

另一方面,直覺是否正確,和身處的環境很有關係。例如汽水公司「百事」,曾經做過一個實驗,証明當人們朦眼時,他們喜歡喝一啖百事多過一啖可樂,令到「可口可樂」以為它的可樂不好喝 (因為連他們自己做這個實驗都得出這個結果),於是改配方,反而銷量更低…原來雖然一啖百事的確好飲過一啖可樂,因為如果只飲一啖的話,甜些的汽水(百事)會好味一點,但現實生活中,人們飲汽水不是飲一啖,而是飲一杯、一罐,結果可樂就比百事好了 (因為這樣百事就太甜啦)。結論就是:就算直覺的結果沒有錯,如果實驗的環境(做出直覺決定的環境)和現實根本不配合,直覺的決定就不是準確了。

另一種和環境/偏見有關的直覺錯誤,就是普遍人不懂得「細分」自己的感受。例如書中講述有位設計師,曾經設計了一種新型的椅子,大部分售前調查收回來的結果,都發現顧客「不喜歡」這張椅的外形,不過公司仍然將椅子推出市面,但椅子最後出乎意料地大受歡迎,甚至成為經典。作者認為,那些做調查的顧客,未必是不喜歡那張椅,只是認為它太怪或太前衛,所以就用「不喜歡」這個字眼。書中的例子証明,就算做銷售調查,結果亦未必屬實,因為普遍人的直覺,並不懂得細分自己的真正感受,加上環境的影響 (例如潮流) 和一些個人偏見,直覺就不正確了,對現實的影響可不少,例如影響商品/歌手的前途和銷量。

還有一種和環境/偏見有關的直覺錯誤,就是普遍人在有限的時間或極度緊張的狀態下,所做的直覺決定很多時都受到壞的因素影響。書中記述一個美國男子被4個警察亂槍射死的原因,就是因為幾個警察在極度緊張的狀態下,錯誤認定男子是壞人 (因為他在治安差的地方,又不作聲,又突然逃走),並錯誤以為男子手上的是手槍,結果錯手殺死了他,整件事發生的時間不過幾十秒。結果,美國的警察後來有很多新指引,例如警車上只有一位警察,於是當他要等支援時,就有更多時間,不會草率地下決定;盡量不要飛車追逐疑犯,避免當追到疑犯時,由於時間太短,加上車速做成的緊張,因而作出錯誤決定。

作者利用不同的例子,証明直覺也有「失效」的時候。但是,只要知道如何避免直覺失效的因素,加上「細分」 (thin slicing) 和增加日常經驗,直覺將會是一個良好的工具,加上靈活運用意識層面的分析,我們做各種決定時便會無往而不利,這相信亦是這本書其中一個主旨吧!

說完這本書的內容,當然要講講個人感受。當然,這本書和之前一集同樣出色的地方,在於它能夠運用多項不同的有趣生活/實驗實例去探討一個生活常見的現象,同時証明作者的觀點 (我可是只說了一小部分例子呢,有興趣其他例子就自己看看啦…),而且他的文字淺白,就算英文不是太好都可以跟得上 (當然如果你看中文版就另計啦…)。加上這本書的內容其實不太長,是一本容易看的kill time書籍。至於可以改進的地方,我想有點在於書的本質吧:「直覺」是一個有趣的題目,不過就算連我媽媽完全沒有看過這本書,都知道直覺是靠生活和經驗累積回來。這說出作者的觀點沒有新意可言嗎? 這又未盡然,至少這位作者都算下過一番苦工找例子吧,但可能下一本書在選題上,要選一個更加特別或有趣的心理題目 (不過又要有例子,又要深入淺出不容易),讀者才愛看囉。總之,期待這位作家的第3本作品,能否突破前作的框框。

* Priming experiment是心理學常用的實驗模式,利用某些事物以引發在我們潛意識內的潛在聯繫,這種聯繫就反映在答題的時間差異上。這種實驗通常用電腦進行,因為可以用快速顯示引字/題目和調節顯示引字/題目的速度,並準確測量答題時間至千分之一秒甚至更少。例如當一個人先在給予的一堆字中看到 「香蕉」這個字,當他之後答問題時 (「香___」),他很自然就會答「香蕉」,所用的時間亦會比答 「蘋____」(蘋果) 為快,因為他之前已經看過「香蕉」這個詞語,潛意識上已經建立了一個聯繫。
